When a big storm makes its way through the area, is there a small voice in the back of your head worried about damage? You’re not the only one! Having aluminum fences decreases the volume of that little voice, but it may not completely take it away. Aluminum is an extremely durable material which is why it’s gained popularity over the last few years. It’s very resilient to a lot of outdoor elements despite how lightweight it is. On top of that, it’s corrosion and rust-proof. Despite all of this, in the right circumstances such as an extremely bad storm or a series of bad storms in a row, your aluminum fence can be damaged. Here’s how you can keep it protected.
- Regularly Inspect the Area: Every few months inspect the fence to make sure everything still looks nice and is intact. If possible inspect the fence before and after a heavy storm to verify nothing happened. Shore up any weak areas on the fence to avoid future damage.
- Check Post Holes: If your fence is older, it’s important to make sure that the post holes are still sufficiently filled in. This will ensure that during the heavy storms the posts won’t tip over because of heavy winds and do more damage.
- Clean Up The Yard: If you know a storm is coming, give your yard a quick clean-up, especially if you know it’s going to be a heavy one. This will prevent anything from your yard from flying into the fence causing damage. It will also prevent you from losing anything if it happens to clear the fence altogether.
- Trim Surrounding Trees: Trees can cause a lot more damage than you may realize. While the entire tree itself rarely falls, the branches and twigs are always breaking. It’s even more common if a storm is pulling them loose. Make sure you have your tree trimmed as well as its overall stability checked regularly.
